La Germania può essere considerata una sorta di patria della moderna cucina da campo, perché era in questo paese nel 1892. Karl Rudolf Wissler ha costruito per la prima volta un dispositivo del genere. Entrò in servizio molto rapidamente nell'esercito della Germania imperiale, ei soldati lo chiamarono "Gulaschkanone", cioè un cannone da gulasch. Già durante la prima guerra mondiale, le cucine da campo tedesche cambiarono, principalmente a causa dell'aumento del volume di cibo trasportato. L'esercito tedesco entrò nella guerra mondiale successiva utilizzando diversi tipi di cucine da campo, che erano divise in cucine da campo grandi e piccole (tedesco: Grosse Feldküche e Kleine Feldküche). La prima categoria comprendeva principalmente le cucine da campo Hf.11 e Hf.13, che ricordavano i tempi della prima guerra mondiale. Entrambi i modelli erano molto simili tra loro e la loro essenza differiva solo nei dettagli. Il calderone principale per la preparazione dei pasti aveva una capacità di 200 litri e quello destinato alle bevande (il più delle volte caffè) - 90 litri. Nelle cucine piccole, invece, possono essere inseriti i modelli Hf.12 e Hf.14. Nel loro caso, la caldaia principale aveva una capacità di 125 litri e quella destinata alle bevande - 60 litri.
