La Porsche 917 è un'auto da corsa tedesca presentata per la prima volta al pubblico nel 1968. La sua produzione in serie iniziò nello stesso anno e continuò fino al 1968. La produzione è stata concentrata a Stoccarda, in Germania. Solo 25 esemplari di questa vettura sono stati realizzati per il mercato commerciale.
La Porsche 917 è stata sviluppata come successore delle altre auto da corsa del marchio: la 907, e soprattutto la 908, da Hans Mezger. Strutturalmente, era chiaramente basato sul modello 908. Rispetto al suo predecessore, la Porsche 917 differiva principalmente per un motore molto più potente, perché utilizzava motori Tipo 912 con una capacità da 4,5 a 5 litri, rispetto ai primi 3- motori da litro nella "908" ".
