Per partecipare alle competizioni automobilistiche della categoria Gruppo 5 della FIA, Porsche realizzò una versione derivata dalla celebre auto stradale Porsche 911 turbo ed allestita con soluzioni motoristiche e telaistiche dedicate. Furono diverse le versioni sviluppate per le competizioni sportive. Particolarmente celebre fu la Porsche 935J “Baby” realizzata per competere nel campionato nazionale tedesco (Deutsche Rennwagen Meisterschaft) nella categoria due litri. La “Baby” adottò un telaio alleggerito che permetteva alla vettura di avere un peso complessivo di soli 735 Kg. per essere in linea con le normative del regolamento. Adottò un motore raffreddato ad aria da 1,425 cc in grado di erogare una potenza di 261 Kw La vettura ottenne un’importante vittoria sul circuito di Hockenheim, nel 1977, dimostrando di essere stata sviluppata su solide basi tecniche.
